The Peale

This project is supported by the Peale, a home for Baltimore Stories since 1814.

The Peale is the oldest museum building in the United States. It was built by Rembrandt Peale, a member of the first family of American artists. Through their explorations, scientific investigations, and museum displays, the Peale family also contributed greatly to the new nation’s understanding of natural history. Rembrandt commissioned architect Robert Cary Long to design the building—essentially a Federal Period townhouse, with a rear gallery extension.

Today, the Peale is a center for Baltimore stories, a cultural commons helping culture keepers and communities share their authentic stories of the city both through live performance and online. You can hear Baltimore stories on a variety of platforms, including the Be Here Stories SoundCloud Channel and through the Amazon Alexa skill “Baltimore Stories.” To enable it, ask your Alexa to “play Baltimore Stories.”

The Peale Center has their finger on the pulse of Baltimore culture with great events and meaningful exhibits. While also working hard to preserve memories and keep the past alive. I am thrilled to be able to enjoy this venue for so many different experiences.”
